Marcia
Milazzo, along with her late husband William, owned a pharmacy which became highly
regarded for custom compounding. Bill was a pharmacist who got involved in compounding
when their son was diagnosed with autism. At that time, Mark was placed on a diet
free of all artificial additives. When Mark needed medicine, Bill had to make
it from scratch. Over the years, compounding became the foundation of their pharmacy.
Along the way, the Celiac Community began to take notice of this special pharmacy
that would custom compound medicines without the use of gluten or lactose. Questions
from Celiac patients came pouring in faster than they could find the answers.
Marcia decided that a list should be prepared which could be sent out to patients who needed to know what was gluten free and what was not. That list turned into a 400 page book. That experience has now led to The Directory of Drug Manufacturers, which supplies the names, addresses, and phone numbers of all the drug manufacturers in the US. Anyone who must eliminate gluten, lactose or any other inactive ingredient from their diet/drugs can quickly locate and contact the manufacturer directly to obtain the most up to date information. Unlike foods, inactive ingredients in drugs (such as gluten or lactose) do not have to be listed on the product package or insert. These ingredients can also be changed without notice because they are considered "inactive."
